3 Smart Tips for Staying Cool in the Summer Heat

Summer is here and it is HOT! No matter where you are in the world, staying cool in the summer heat is a priority for everyone.

Here are three tips that will help you think ahead and keep yourself cool–whether you’re just hanging out in the yard or need to venture out into the heat for a fun activity

The legend of Staying cool in the heat – Snack Smart

The food you eat is one of the best (and most fun) ways to keep your body cool during a heat wave is to pick the right foods! Foods that contain a lot of water and that are cold are the best options to keep you cool and hydrated during the summer, but you’ll also need some protein and vitamin packed super foods like fish, beans, and eggs, to keep your energy levels up. A lot of people’s summer favorite is FRUIT– and for good reason! Fruit contains a lot of water and does a great job of cooling down your body and keeping you hydrated. Pack a lunch including some watermelon, pineapple, berries, and oranges for a refreshing snack on-the-go.

Speaking of on-the-go snacks, you can also throw some of your favorite snacks in the freezer before you leave the house as a way to cool down once you’re outside. Refrigerated Yabon pudding packs are a great option for a ice-cream type of dessert that won’t melt or get all over
your hands when you are out and about.

Staying cool in the heat- Consider materials

In terms of staying cool, there is nothing more important than the fabrics you choose for your clothes. When choosing what to wear, check the tag on your clothes to see what materials they are made out of. Fabrics like linen, cotton, and chambray are made for the hot summer weather, and will keep you cool. Make sure to avoid any denim, nylon, or polyester, as these fabrics will trap in your heat and make you much hotter. You can also look for new innovative
breathable fabric options like Eucalyptus, and hemp. These cooling technologies that also make them great options for summer sheets. Sleeping has never been so cool! You can also stay cool by choosing the right colors for your clothes! Dark colors attract sunlight, so wearing a black shirt outside will make you much hotter than if you choose a white or light colored shirt. If you ever wondered why so many summer styles include white linen pants and shirts, now you know why!

Staying cool in the heat- use water wisely

Everyone knows that there is no better way to beat the heat when jumping into a pool or ocean, but that’s not always possible, so sometimes we need to find ways to bring the water with us wherever we go. Some water bottle companies make face sprays that you can throw in your purse and take with you on a hot days. If you don’t have one available, you can always make your own! Just pour some cold water in a plastic spray bottle that you would use for cleaning and stick it in your bag before you head out (make sure to ask your parents about
which plastic spray bottles would be safe to use).
Keeping enough water in your body is very important during a heatwave, but remember to start hydrating before you plan to leave the house. Hydrating is a marathon, not a sprint, so make sure you drink water often and consistently.

We hope these tips help you realize how important it is to think ahead before going out in the summer heat. The summer sun is a strong force of nature and it is not to be taken lightly. And as always, make sure you are lathering up the SPF and wearing a hat and sunglasses anytime you are headed into the sunshine.

What is Pudding?

Do you know that the pudding is different depending on the country?

Pudding can be many things. The American sweet treat like Yabon’s pudding to go is only one kind of pudding

In England, pudding is a sweet or savory treat that resembles everything from meat pie, to fruit cake, to (gasp!) blood-filled sausage! This is because the word “pudding” might originally come from the French word “boudin” which typically translates to something like “sausage made with intestines”. That sure is different from the chocolate puddings we know and love!

A traditional English Roast Dinner includes Yorkshire pudding, which is a savory bread that is nothing like American pudding at all!

In South Africa, Malva Pudding is a delicious sweet cake that is bathed in syrup and flavored with apricot jam. It is reported to be of Nelson Mandela’s favorite desserts!

In France, puddings would be called a “creme dessert” and there are dozens and dozens of different kinds. Certainly, many of you have tasted the unforgettable Crème Brûlée, Crème Caramel, and Crème Dessert au Citron (lemon curd) that France is so famous for.

In America, what we call pudding is a delicious cream dessert that has a milk base and includes lots of sugar. But for the rest of the world, this kind of “pudding” would be considered a custard, not pudding. It is interesting to see how words and concepts take on their own meaning as they travel across countries and regions, often becoming something totally unique.

At Yabon, we think the American definition of pudding is pretty much perfect: Sweet, silky, and easy to share with friends and family.

The French Goûter

Discover the true on the French snacking

It is often said that French people don’t snack. And while in a way this is true, it’s not exactly correct.

French people DO snack! They just don’t indiscriminately snack throughout the day. They wait for the official French goûter that occurs every day at around 4:30 pm.

When kids get home from a long day at school, many expect their goûter to be waiting for them at the table: a totally sweet treat of cakes, crepes with nutella, puddings, cream desserts, and pain au chocolate. To wash it all down, they generally mix sugary syrup or grenadine with water for a super sweet juice.

The fun and totally wild thing about the French goûter (from an American perspective) is that it doesn’t try to be something it’s not: healthy! Forget the dried fruit, granola, and fat-free sugar-free everything-free yogurts. When the French snack, they indulge and enjoy. Maybe this is the key to generally healthy lifestyle. Everyone craves chocolate and sugar, especially kids. The French work this reality into their daily food routine at the time of the day when kids and adults really need a pick-me-up.

The legend of Yabon since 1970!

At Yabon, we pride ourselves on being a goûter staple across the country. Our puddings and crème desserts have welcomed kids home from school for decades. We invite you to participate in your own version of a French goûter with our American pudding packs. And since they are portable, you can “goûter” in true American fashion: On-the-go!

Yabon U.S.: French traditions with a modern twist

Yabon U.S.’s story began as a special partnership between two French entrepreneurs sharing a passion for high quality, delicious food.

U.S.-based Maxime G. and France-based Damien C., met in 2018 and began to discuss a legendary French custard brand Yabon – created in France in the 1950s – didn’t have a U.S. presence. Americans were missing out on the iconic Yabon products that the French had been enjoying for decades: traditional custards, flavorful rice puddings, and flavorful desserts.

Maxime and Damien decided to meet with Roger B., Yabon’s brand owner, to share their dream of bringing Yabon products to the U.S. market. Soon after, Yabon U.S. was born. Yabon’s Normandy based production facility became dedicated to developing and fine-tuning delicious recipes that would meet U.S. market requirements.

Today, a full line of Yabon Pudding to Go is sold in the U.S. in individual squeezable pouches. Currently, the Pudding to Go pouches are available in three flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla and Banana. Many more dessert solutions are in the works, like gourmet crème dessert served in a traditional, premium-quality glass jars.

With the rise of snacking, the popularity of squeezable pouches and the steady growth of the dessert category, Yabon puddings are an exciting innovation for the grocery and dairy industries.

These traditional French partnerships and practices are an important part of Yabon’s company culture and identity.

Yabon Pudding to Go: Easy for Parents, Yummy for kids!

We are so excited to be launching Yabon’s Pudding to Go pouches, a delicious portable snack solution that parents and kids are both excited about.

Why Pudding pouches?

Yabon pudding pouches were born out of a need for portable snacks that kids can take with them wherever they go. Pouches are easy to transport, space-efficient, and most importantly– don’t require a spoon!

Easy, Healthy Snack Options for Kids

One of the best parts of our pudding pouches is that they are a balanced snack that offers protein and dairy without needing to be refrigerated. Children need dairy products in their daily diet, and parents are having a hard time getting the necessary 3 daily servings in. As a result, B-12 deficiencies in the U.S. are common.

With the rise of applesauce and other fruit purees packaged in portable pouches, it is clear that families crave easy, healthy snack options for kids that can be taken anywhere. This is the genius of the pudding pouch. It provides a serving of dairy while still being a fun, tasty treat that kids look forward to finding in their lunchbox or backpack.
